A complete ceremonial manual for the celebration of the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours. Faithful to the renewal of worship authorized by the Second Vatican Council, Ceremonies combines precise guidance to these rites with a pastoral and spiritual approach. A high ideal of noble Catholic worship is consistently maintained, respecting the "continuity of our tradition." Ceremonies sets out the liturgical duties of bishops, priests and deacons, acolytes and servers, lectors and eucharistic ministers, making it invaluable for clergy, seminarians, and all who teach or study the liturgy. The book also includes a wide range of guidance on such useful themes as: vessels and vestments, how to carry out ceremonial actions, the deacon, ministering the Eucharist to the sick, children's liturgy, Eucharistic adoration, Eucharistic processions, celebrating vespers in a parish, eucharistic ministries and the laity, and the location of the tabernacle.
Author and pastor Andy Stanley draws from Scripture and over 25 years of pastoral experience to communicate to church leaders how they can create a church where believers can have a growing faith in Jesus and at the same time unbelievers can make a vital and lasting connection---a ministry that is both deep and wide. Softcover, 400 pages, 5.5" x 8.5". ISBN: 9780310526537.

Luke's gospel contains a number of passages about compassion. One
of the most beloved of these is commonly known as the parable of the Prodigal
Son. In The Prodigal Father, Angelo Scarano focuses on the
distinctive role of the father in the parable, the example he provides of being
transformed by a compassionate heart, and the joy in celebrating the return of
what was loved and thought to be lost.
Scarano suggests that this remarkable parable has two climaxes—the
banquet for the younger son, and the conversation between the father and the
elder son—and that it is in this second climax where the real intention of the
evangelist is revealed. Scarano urges readers to accept God's
"compassionate heart," to allow God's Spirit to transform us and
enable us to live like the prodigal father, opening our hearts to the weak and
the strong, the broken and the bitter.
